This strain is known as Sputnik due to the cross between the themed Apollo 13 strain and a Black Russian strain. It is an apt name for this weed. The Black Russian that is used in creating Sputnik is a combination of Blackberry from Somablaze and an AK-47 strain from Nebu. The result is a Black Russian variety in which every female plant turns solid purple. Sputnik offers two phenotypes for growers, they are similar in growing, but are quite different in high and taste.
Both forms of Sputnik do great indoors and out. To make it even better this strain has quite impressive yield potential. This strain also germinates quite easy, but does start off slow during vegetation. Once she is established, plants that are flowered at about 30 inches end up barely over 4 feet tall. TGA seeds recommends you top them in a candelabra shape which will cause the lower branches to receive as much light as possible. Screen of green and bushy are the best ways to grow Sputnik. Sputnik also goes great in hydroponics setups with supports. Plants growing in cabinets will love how this strain fills out small empty areas. The leaves are quite wide and have deep serrated edges that will start dark green and fade to lime during flowering.
Sputnik does not do well with direct heat and yields are minimized in cold climates. She doesn’t react to stress well so clones may need some time to get established. Outdoors, Sputnik will finish around mid-September in Northern California and in about 8 to 9 weeks indoors.
Sputnik has two different phenotypes. The most common phenotype is similar to the Black Russian parent. It comes with an Indica stone and turns from light pink to a dark magenta around harvest time. The buds are fluffy and covered with resin. They are also spicy and the stone is a strong body relaxer that lasts a long time. The other phenotype is more similar to Apollo 13. It has a great Sativa high and smells like cream soda. As time goes on the smell does get a little bit sour. The buds are also denser than the Black Russian pheno. The stone is a trip that will have you euphorically flying while staring at walls. Trippy visual effects are also quite common. The high is very similar to Apollo 13 and has a sweeter taste and is also slightly more psychedelic than the Apollo 13 mother.
