Skunk #1 was aptly named for its strong smell. A classic strain that was originally bred in Holland and is probably the most famous marijuana strain known today. It was the first sinsemilla marijuana variety and was also the first stabilized hybrid developed for indoor cultivation. Skunk #1 originated in the 1970s in the California bay area.
The original Skunk hybrids was a cross between 25% Afghani, 25% Mexican Acapulco Gold, and 50% Colombian Gold. Through countless generations of intensive selections and back-crossing the very best Skunk plants were stabilized into the first true-breeding Indica-Sativa hybrid, Skunk #1.
Due to the potency of this cannabis strain, ‘skunk’ is often used as a name for any kind of strong marijuana. Skunk #1 is regarded as a benchmark of reliable and uniform performance, and its genotype has greatly influenced many many modern hybrids.
Skunk #1 has bountiful yields and energetic performance that is well-known for. It mostly resembles Indica plants in appearance, with a slight increase in height than other Indica while flowering. The extra dark green leaves of this strain derive from the Afghanica ancestors and provides great contrast with the lime-green growing tips.
Flowering in Skunk #1 is very fast and the plant has robust stems and branches to support the heavy yields. Short internode gaps transform into dense, rounded clusters of flowers that merge into huge, heavy terminal buds at the end of the blooming phase. The fan leaves show many shades of color when its reaching the end of flowering stage as the plant focuses its energy on bud and resin production. The long pistils, beautiful calyxes and expanding bud growth as harvest approaches greatly resembled Skunk #1s Sativa heritage.

Skunk #1 is actually a Sativa, and that “up” high is most likely a cerebral head high usually caused by sativa dominant plants. The indica dominant plant usually causes body highs and “couch-lock”.
Most plants are usually hybrids, and have different highs.
