Many people would just as soon light a blunt up rather than mull over a hot stove for an hour only to have to wait another hour just to feel the effects of eating weed. Primarily due to convenience, but there are certain things that eating marijuana does that smoking just can’t do. If you wanted to go to a concert stoned it sure is alot easier to either sneak in some brownies rather than a joint, as well as trying to sneak to the bathroom to get your high back after 2 hours is up is rather inconvenient. If you just ate a bunch of pot brownies before you leave for the concert then you would be sailing high for the duration of the concert and most likely for a few hours after that.
Pros of Eating Marijuana
Stealth – If you wanted to hide the fact that you’re going to be high around certain people it sure is a lot easier to do it by eating weed rather than smoking a joint or a bowl. Just make sure you don’t share with anyone that isn’t expecting it. It leaves no noticeable smell on you. Also you can time it, so if you have an hour or so where you’re going to be with people that don’t like you being high, or you need to be sober then just eat them an hour before you want to be high.
Lung Health – For some medical marijuana patients eating cannabis is their preferred method of consumption. In fact, at marijuana dispensaries they have several different prepared marijuana products like candy bars and ice cream that anyone can just buy and eat to get their high. But, I digress. Eating is obviously a ‘safer’ and ‘healthier’ method of consumption than smoking due to the damage to your lungs. Granted, smoking marijuana is safer than smoking cigarettes, but there is still going to be some damage due to the fact you’re inhaling burned plant material.
Duration – The main thing about eating weed is the duration of how long the high lasts. It can last anywhere from a couple hours to all day depending on how much marijuana you eat. Which is great for any type of public event (concert, sports games) where you’re not going to be able to go back to your house to light up a blunt or hit the bong when your high wears off.
Different Effect – Due to the altering of chemicals that make up marijuana during the cooking process this can make for an almost completely different high experience. Often eating cannabis results in an experience that is more hallucinogenic than smoking. Spatial distortions as well as objects appearing larger than normal and smaller than normal is more likely to occur when marijuana is eaten.
Stronger High – Eating marijuana is sometimes a completely different experience and may be somewhat refreshing than just smoking it as usual. If you smoke too much chances are you’ll just get really stoned and either pass out before you can smoke more or end up stopping just because you can’t smoke anymore, and sometimes what happens to me is that you’re already so high that smoking more doesn’t really do anything. With eating marijuana you can eat as much as you technically want before even beginning to feel the effects. In a sense this is bad if you don’t know what you’re doing, because you could end up passing out for 12-48 hours. On the other hand if you know how much you need to eat you can end up soaring into outer space for 12 hours until you have to come back down.
Cons of Eating Marijuana
Duration – Sometimes you don’t want to or can’t be high for hours on end and just want a couple hours to yourself before you have to go do something serious. Smoking marijuana only lasts for around 2 hours, while eating can last anywhere from 4-8 hours on average and even longer depending on how much you eat. Also it takes only a couple seconds for you to feel it from smoking weed, but it takes thirty minutes to an hour and a half before you even begin to feel the high from eating marijuana, and from there on it continuously rises til you hit your peak.
Use More Marijuana – Often marijuana recipes call for large amounts of marijuana anywhere from a half to an ounce or two, atleast for good quality marijuana food. For some people that may just be too much, when a joint uses up at most a gram. But it just depends on your perspective and how much you can easily get ahold of cause a pan of marijuana brownies will probably get you high ten times, and all you’d need to eat is just a brownie each time.
Overdose Potential – If you don’t know how it’s going to effect you then you probably shouldn’t eat an entire pan of pot brownies, with smoking you just smoke until you’ve had your fill or either go to sleep. If you eat all the brownies chances are you’ll end up waking up a day or two later not really knowing what happened.
Sure, there may seem like more pros than cons when considering whether to eat your marijuana or smoke it, but it all depends on your situation. Typically I like to reserve eating for special occasions. You don’t need a lot of marijuana to bake something, you can cook certain recipes with a just a few grams, but in the end it usually works better to use a little more weed.

I don’t eat pot at all, ive maybe had two pot brownies and a candy bar in my lifetime and while the brownie experience was great, the candy bar made me sick. The candy bar was a medical candy bar infused with hash, and today I picked up a medible muffin with 1.6 grams of mmj coconut oil. I am a medical patient and smoke pot 24/7 but I am just worried about getting sick like I did with the hash, could it have been eating on an empty stomach? Any suggestions would be great.
Steven Tyler…I am with you….only a sociopath would such a thing! As for the debate, I prefer ingesting it. I don’t like to smoke, as it gets me too high, aka, paranoid, but no physical issues like heart racing, nausea. The only time I ever felt that was when I tried that synthetic shit. But eating it gives me a very pleasant high with one brownie. When partying, I’ll eat 2 or 3 with friends and we just laugh our butts off! I just started using in the last nine months, as I had bouts of insommnia, but, no more! I just grind it up very fine using a coffee grinder (works great!), mix with dry brownie mix, add the other ingredients and bake as directed. I usually cut them on the small side, better control of the high….you can always eat another! Wrap each one in foil, place in a freezer bag in the freezer and take them out as needed. They only take 5-10 mins to defrost on the counter and seem to last me a long time unless I throw a party…..I use a $20 bag to one package brownie mix. I’m 50yrs old and live in Texas so I don’t know if that’s a good deal or not. But, for anywhere from 2-6 weeks worth of pleasure and fun, I’ll take it!

The first brownie I ate was a long time ago, a buddy took an ounce of pretty flowers and really didn’t grind it up too much so you were eating little and decent sized buds to where you probably could’ve rolled one up too. It was nice mellow high but we smoked to so it conflicted. I went to california recently and became a patient ,gotta love it. So I went to my first shop and got free gifts, including grandmas choc chip macadamian nut cookie, kush soda ,and a cone j.

When eating pot, why do you have to cook it? Why not just eat the bud like i just did.
Hey Joe, I have been researching this recently and I found out that the weed is fat soluble. I’ve known that part for a long time. But what does it have to do with cooking it? Well when you cook the weed in butter or coconut oil (highest in unsaturated fats) it extracts the THC and if you just eat it you won’t get very high. If you’ve never tried simmering the weed in the oil or butter first before cooking them then you’ve never experienced eating a true pot brownie. If you use other kinds of oils it will still work but they have saturated fats which don’t work quite as well at extracting the THC. Hope this helps.
I ate a couple of buds tonight and it worked pretty well. I mean it wasn’t particularly enjoyable but it got the job done. I feel like there are lots more ways than brownies to eat it though. I’d do it in a bowl of pasta with some tomato sauce and pesto -_-
TCH has to be broken down in a fat substance such as the oil or butter ( use only real butter and not margarine.) you also have to be very careful not to burn the THC.
Yes you actually can eat any food at all so long as you make like cannabutter which is a butter that has whatever amount of THC infused in it. You would only have to add the butter to any recipe you want that calls for butter. this is a very good recipe for that.

I have Chronic neck pain very bad and it’s getting worst, I take pain killers for the pain and I hate it, I want to get away from the pain killers so I’m thinking about using marijuana but I don’t want to smoke it, so what I am wondering is that if I eat it will it still help with the neck pain???, Please help me with this.
I don’t think you get it, You can’t just eat the weed by itself. You might get a little bit of a high but most of it is because you think you should be high. The THC in weed, which is the chemical that gives u the effect of a high has to be extracted! THC will vaporize at 400 degrees F, so when you smoke it, the heat vaporizes the THC in the weed and you inhale the THC into your lungs which will put it into your blood stream.
You have to extract the THC with butter, cooking oil or high proof alcohol. Make sure you have it simmering ( not boiling, because oil boil at higher temp than water) so if it is boiling, you will end up vaporizing all the THC into the air. You simmer so the THC is released and binds to the fat in the oil.
