Sagarmatha acquired this strain from growers in the Matanuska Valley, which represents the great, legendary pot of the Alaskan northland. Matanuska Tundra was also known as Matanuska Thunderfuck, but Sagarmatha took a little more tact by changing the named to “Tundra”. Tundra is the Alaskan word for grassland, which makes perfect sense, since Matanuska Tundra is grass from Alaska’s grasslands.
Matanuska Tundra is a great stable breed for making crosses with and has been widely used in many different hybrid programs. The flavor of this marijuana is chocolate, with a creeper high that starts of slowly and grows into a full body, sleepy stone about 5-10 minutes after hitting the bong. This strain is a great choice for alleviating pain in medicinal users.
An Indica plant, that has large palm-like leaves, this strain stays short, but grows to be a very thick bush with many side branches. Dense colas form frosty glacier coats of THC crystals completely covering the buds. Matanuska Tundra is recommended to be grown best indoors. It can still be grown outdoors in arid climate to produce chunky bushes that are short and still have adequate yields.
To determine if Matanuska Tundra is ready to harvest, growers must look towards the lower portion of the buds, because the tips will continue growing even when the rest of the bud is ripe. By waiting for the tips to finish, expect frustrating and unnecessary delays in harvest that can be spent doing something like smoking. Sagarmatha’s breeders performed an experiment to see how long it’d actually take for the tips ripen, and after 115 days they gave in, the plant still had immature white hairs on the tips when they harvested. Make sure when you’re drying this plant, that you do so thoroughly because of the density of buds will let mold develop if all the moisture doesn’t escape.
