A mason jar bong is a very simple smoking device that even the most stoned smokers can make while high. It’s very efficient, easy to make, only takes a couple of minutes, plus you can paint it and modify it to your liking when finished. Majority of the tools used can be found in your house, but if you want to get technical you can use extra hardware to make a fancy mason jar bong.
What You’ll Need For Your Mason Jar Bong:
- Mason jar and lid
- Tape or hot glue, I prefer hot glue since you can use it to make a tight seal, if you want to go over the top you can get clear, silicone caulk at Wal-Mart or Home Depot to make a completely waterproof seal, but it takes a day or two to completely setup
- Straws, pen tubes, or plastic tubing like can be found at a store that sells fishes, AKA Wal-Mart, Pet Smart
- A socket, these are perfect for the bowl, and come in a variety of sizes and can be found at Wal-Mart, your garage, or any other hardware store
- Something to poke holes in the mason jar lid, I use a soldering iron, it’s easy to use to poke holes in plastic and other not so heat resistant materials
Making a Mason Jar Bong:
- First, unscrew the lid off the mason jar.
- Poke three holes in the lid, one for the carb, one for the bowl and stem, and one for the mouthpiece. Put the carb in the middle of the lid and the hole for the bowl and stem on one side of the carb and the mouthpiece hole on the other side.
- Cut a length of plastic tubing so that it is about two inches under the water that you’re going to have in your mason jar. The water level will be about half full. Also make sure your plastic tubing is about .5″-1″ above the lid.
- Hot glue the socket to the plastic tubing to form the bowl, and make sure the seal is water tight all the way around the socket.
- Then hot glue the plastic tubing around the hole on the top and bottom of the mason jar lid.
- Now take a shorter piece of plastic tubing and poke through the mouthpiece hole, but make sure it is long enough for you to suck on it comfortably and so you don’t get your eyebrows burnt off when lighting the bowl. Also make sure that the plastic tubing inside the mason jar for your mouth piece is short enough that it doesn’t touch the water.
- Hot glue around the mouthpiece hole on both the top and the bottom of the jar lid. Pack a bowl and enjoy the mason jar bong.
This is such a simple bong to make, that I’m surprised I haven’t seen them all that much. The glass mason jar is perfect for a bong, and is much more efficient to smoke out of than a ghetto plastic bottle that most people use for their homemade bongs.
