A vaporizer is just one of those things that everyone has heard about, but not many people have them or have even seem them in person, let alone even used a marijuana vaporizer. Marijuana vaporizers are sort of like the forbidden fruit, you know a lot of people that say they’re the best, but you just can’t seem to find anyone that has one or anyone that knows very much about them. We are here to bring the vaporizer into the light and shed as much information about marijuana vaporizers as possible. First, we must learn the basics.
Marijuana Vaporizer Basics
A vaporizer works by heating up the marijuana to a specific temperature, this specific temperature is where vaporization occurs. What a vaporizer doesn’t do is smoke the marijuana like lighting if in a bowl or a bong. This is the important part, because during combustion some of the THC is broken down by the flame, so when you’re lighting that bowl you’re not getting as much THC as you could possibly could from your marijuana. Vaporizing heats the marijuana up to the vaporizing temperature (177 degrees C – 200 degrees C, or 351 degrees F – 392 degrees F) so that the marijuana turns into a vapor and you can inhale it like smoke, but minus the side effects of smoking marijuana, like lung irritation.
Different Types of Marijuana Vaporizers
Currently there are three different types of vaporizers and that are classified by how they heat the marijuana.
Conduction Heating- Conduction vaporizers were the first kinds of vaporizers to make it to the market and are still in production today. They vaporize the marijuana by placing it on a metal plate that is then heated to release the active cannabinoids.
Convection Heating- In convection vaporizers the marijuana never touches a heating element. Hot air passes through the marijuana heating it rapidly, and that allows the release of the cannabinoids. The convection heating method is more efficient and releases more cannabinoids than the conduction heating method.
Nearly every high end vaporizer on the market today consists of the convection method.
Radiation Heating- Radiation heating subjects the marijuana to bright light. As the marijuana absorbs radiant energy its temperature rises to promote the vaporization. These kinds of vaporizers are rare, but can have the same performance of the convection vaporizer. You can use something as simple as a pipe and a magnifying glass on a sunny day to act like a decent radiation vaporizer.
Make Your Own Marijuana Vaporizer or Buy One?
Vaporizers can be made at home, or bought at a good supply store, but the easiest way to buy a marijuana vaporizer is to purchase it online. The downside to buying your own vaporizer is that its quite expensive to get an effective one. Though there are a few marijuana vaporizer pipes that you can choose from for less than $50. An average vaporizer will run anywhere from $100-$200 with the high end models going up to $300.
Making your own vaporizer is a lot cheaper, though I necessarily wouldn’t say it would be easier. There’s an easy vaporizer design you can make using an ordinary light bulb, while more advanced designs consist of using a soldering gun for the heating element, and wiring it to adjust the temperature inside a tube or bowl.
Marijuana Vaporizer Myths and Benefits
There a few myths going around involving vaporizers and their marijuana smoking abilities.
Some say that is doesn’t give you as much of a high, that may be true to an extent. Vaporizers give you a slightly different buzz than you would get just normally smoking marijuana due to the purity of the vapor and lack of smoke as well as the different inhalation technique. But it will get you just as high, it’s just a slightly different high that you may not be used to the first time around. Vaporizers also don’t smell the same as smoking weed. It may resemble the smell, but it certainly isn’t the smell of that dank bud you have burning in your room. Some people say it kind of smells like popcorn.
The other myth is that vaporizers use up more marijuana than smoking, which just isn’t true at all. Vaporizers are more effective at smoking marijuana than other methods, they make sure you use 100% of the bud, and that none of it is burned up from lighting the bowl. You also get a much higher amount of the THC from the marijuana than smoking it other ways.
The benefits of vaporizers sure make that $200 vape you’re looking to buy a lot more affordable. Vaporizers save your marijuana, and require you to smoke less due to their efficiency. Marijuana vaporizers are also healthier for you than smoking a blunt or a joint every time you want to get high. Blunts have tobacco from the shell, and the tar and other active chemicals in the marijuana that we don’t want to inhale are only created when the marijuana is burned, not when it is vaporized.

I have read this and can only get one thing right! I have got to get me a vaporizer. Because I first started smoking weed up in Northwest Territories. Now I moved up into a native community in the Northwesr Territories where a pinner joint sold for $10.00. And to smoke it the natives would chop up a pinner sized joint into little peices and then we’d hot knife it. Hot knifing was the way it was done up in that small native community. Now that I’m back down in civilization with people the marijuana isn’t so expensive but up in WhaTi, NWT Canada it was damn expensive. The natives brought it in and sold it to their people and thats just how the natives up there lived and it too.
