African Seeds originally obtained their first stock of Ethiopian Highland from a group of Rastafarian marijuana breeders that lived in Shashemene, which is a town in the Great Rift Valley, around 150 miles from the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Originally, this strain came about in the highland regions of Southern Tanzania and eventually was brought to Ethiopia. It was grown for several, several generations before it eventually came into the hands of African Seeds breeders and was then spread throughout the world.
Ethiopian Highland is a pure Sativa strain that has never been crossed with any others strains, only inbred. Grow Ethiopian Highland in a warm place with a long summer for a thriving plant. Even though it is a Sativa acclimated to the warm climates of African it can still do well when grown in Northern European climates and even cooler mountain climates. Ethiopian Highland can also be grown indoors, just make sure the lighting is intence enough for this strain. Hydoponics is the typical choice when growing Ethiopian Highland indoors, because it is especially difficult to grow this plant in soil indoors.
African Seeds prefers to grow this strain out as a multibranch plant and let it vegetate for around 12 to 16 weeks outdoors before flowering. In colder environments, only 10 to 12 weeks are sufficient if the summer days are long enough. Like other strains, yield is half dependent on how big the plants get to grow before induced into flowering. Vegetate your Ethiopian Highland plants after at least 6 weeks before forcing flowering for best results. After forcing flowering it only takes about a month for this strain to be ready for harvest.
Ethiopian Highland forms loose, fluffy buds that are quite long and surrounded by the slender Sativa leaves. It has a very strong Turkish smell that is followed by a licorice aftertaste. Ethiopian Highland has an energetic and electric high that is typical of many Sativas can be expected. You won’t be locked to the couch with this strain will most likely be outside enjoying the weather and doing fun activities. Many Rastafarian communities love this strain for its medicinal properties.
