Skunk #1 and White Widow has been combined and bred to create a great marijuana strain known as Arctic Sun. White Widow and Skunk #1 have been the basis for the Dutch seed breeding industry and have been used in Holland to create high yielding and potent crosses. Flying Dutchmen crossed these two strains to produce a 60% Sativa and 40% Indica plant that can grow great indoors or outdoors at lower latitudes.
Arctic Sun does best indoors when it isn’t pruned and is grown with about 12 to 16 plant per square meter. If you trim off the lower shoots found at the base of the plants they will focus all of their energies into growth at the top and will provide more airflow, reducing the risk of mold. Arctic Sun typically has a central cola and finishes with around 6 to 9 side branches at about 2 to 3 feet tall. It typically yields around 1 to 2 ounces per plant with a 600-watt light setup.
Flying Dutchmen Seeds has tested growing Arctic Sun in a variety of growing mediums. They recommend using organic nutrients and soil, but Arctic Sun can also have high yields when grown in coco fiber and rockwool too. During vegetative growth, Arctic Sun is fairly dense and has short internode spaces. The leaves are medium to dark green with mid-sized leaflets and the plant will mature into a short to medium plant with dense buds.
When growing Arctic Sun outdoors and unpruned it will grow into a 6 foot Christmas tree with purple coloration spread throughout the plant. During a good season yields can be expects to reach 20-24 ounces per plant. Arctic Sun thrives on high levels of nutrients, but make sure you flush the plant the last 10 to 14 days of flowering so none of the nutrients make it into the taste. Most plants typically become fully mature around 9 weeks, and in Holland it will mature around the end of October.
Arctic Sun smells like a pungent fuel odor combined with floral undertones that is a representative of a combination of both parents smells. Its buds are greasy, dense, heavy and thick. When they are cured, the buds mellow out a little, but leave a great balance of potency and everyday enjoyability. Arctic Sun’s taste is a mix of curry house and the sweetness found in its Skunk #1 parent. This marijuana strain is great for smokers that have been smoking a long while and have a high tolerance. Arctic Sun has a cerebral and physical high that can be enjoyed time and time again without developing a tolerance. This strain is also a great medical strain and has been used to treat chronic pain, MS, and sleeping trouble.
